Paralysis by Analysis
Ever feel like our dear old friend Alice tumbling head over heels down a deep dark rabbit hole all because you decided to do “a little” research. Does your curiosity have you free falling after a talking rabbit just so you could learn a little more about a topic “before you got started”.
Sometimes I find myself bleary eyed and completely immersed in the topic that I so innocently looked up to educate myself over an hour ago, no closer to learning anything more about the subject. In this Information Age or I should say Over Information Age, we call that “falling down a rabbit hole” and I am sure each one of you has done it before. The end result? Usually no closer to what we were looking for than when we started, or paralysis by analysis.
This especially happens with the health and fitness industry. In today’s COVID climate there are thousands of resources out there for you to choose from and hundreds of influencers on Instagram trying to tell how you to get “fit” like them. So when we open the internet to figure out how we should start working out or get healthy millions of options blind us and off we are to Wonderland.
So what can we do? How are we supposed to “get started”.
The answer is simple yet so overlooked.
Just get out there and start.
You don’t need a $75 an hour personal trainer. You don’t need a garage full of fancy equipment, and you definitely don’t need a Barnes and Noble credit card for the fitness books you are planning on buying and never reading.
Instead just go. Strap on your tennis shoes (yes they can be 5 years old with a layer of dust on them) and Get. Out. Side. It’s that easy. What do you do when you get out there? Just pick a direction and start walking. Feeling motivated? Throw in a few light jogs, if not, no biggie just keep walking. Aim for 30 minutes. Next week try 40 minutes, and so on.
The biggest hurdle we face isn’t how to get started, its just that we don’t. We are paralyzed by what the “right” answer is for us that we never even try. It’s time to shut down your laptop, click off your phone and just go for a walk. Your fitness doesn’t have to be fancy or make you want to lay on the ground in a puddle of sweat for an hour. It shouldn’t be complicated or impossible.
Your goal for today is to solely Move your Body for 30 Minutes in whatever fashion works for you, and if you don’t know how just go outside and walk. After a week or two of moving your body every day then we can talk about where to go next.
Until then Revel Fit Co. will see you outside on the sidewalk. We are right there with you moving our bodies and leading a healthy life for ourselves and our families.
